(Tallahassee, Fla.)— Floridians for Fair Business Practices (FFBP) today welcomed Whole Foods Market to the Florida-based coalition. The company joins coalition members, the Big Bend Minority Chamber of Commerce, the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association, Target, and Walmart, and coalition supporters, Americans for Tax Reform, Americans for Prosperity Florida, and R Street Institute, in support of repealing Florida’s Prohibition-era alcohol separation law.
Recognized for 18 consecutive years as one of the 100 Best Companies to Work For by Fortune Magazine, Whole Foods Market is the tenth largest food retailer in the United States. The company currently employs thousands of Floridians and its stores are located in every major market in the state.
“We are proud to have Whole Foods Market join our efforts to end state-sanctioned protectionism,” said Christina Johnson, spokesperson for Floridians for Fair Business Practices. “Our position has always been that this repeal is a debate about the free market. Whole Foods Market shares our coalition’s goal to increase competition so that consumers can ultimately benefit from better prices.”
Florida Rep. Carlos Trujillo (R-Miami) and Sen. Lizbeth Benacquisto (R-Ft. Myers) filed House Bill 245 and Senate Bill 420 respectively. The legislation promotes retail competitiveness by repealing the alcohol separation law and is supported by the FFBP coalition.
