Former Tallahassee city commissioner Gil Ziffer is now chairman of the board of the Capital Tiger Bay Club, a non-partisan political forum, according to a Wednesday news release.

Also, Christina Johnson — president of On 3 Public Relations — will serve as president of the nearly 50-year-old organization. Both will serve two-year terms.

And longtime executive director Jeff Hendry has stepped down after nearly 20 years. He will be replaced by former Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce Vice President Jay Revell, now president of Revell Media.

“Our Board of Directors was unanimous with both appointments,” said Ziffer, founder and president of the Ziffer Stansberry advertising and marketing firm, in a statement.

“Christina and Jay have the energy and skills needed to continue the great legacy left by their predecessors,” he added. “We thank Jeff Hendry for his years of service to the Club and have kicked him upstairs and voted him to the Board as well.”

Added Johnson: “As a Capital Tiger Bay Club member for over 20 years, I have always been impressed by the wide range of political and policy issues addressed by local, state, and national voices here in Tallahassee.

“I am honored to serve as president and look forward to new opportunities and programs to serve our membership,” she said.

Revell said he was “excited to take over the day to day operations.”

“The club was an important entry point for me into the Tallahassee political environment … I’m honored to have the opportunity to help preserve the club’s legacy and build upon it in the years to come,” Revell said.

Membership in the club, founded in 1971, is by invitation only. It’s known for hosting monthly luncheons at the Civic Center with notable speakers.

Recent speakers include political consultant, Donald Trump opponent and author Rick Wilson; “Devil in the Grove” author Gilbert King; and FSU President John Thrasher.

The club’s in-person meetings have been indefinitely postponed because of the pandemic, but Johnson said Revell would be looking into online events possibly to be scheduled early next year.
