Senate District 8 Voters in Volusia, Marion and Lake Counties Elect Hukill with 57%

(Port Orange, FL) – Today, with nearly all the votes tallied in Florida Senate District 8, State Representative Dorothy Hukill (R-Port Orange) has been elected to serve as the area’s state senator. The newly created seat encompasses a majority of Volusia County and parts of Marion and Lake Counties.

“It is an honor to be elected by the hardworking people of this district,” said Senator-elect Hukill.  “During this campaign, citizens told me that the most important issues to them were creating jobs and getting our economy back on track, making Tallahassee fiscally responsible, and investing in education. I have a proven record of common sense solutions that clearly resonated with the voters. Thank you to the many volunteers and donors who supported our grassroots efforts in getting our message out to the people of Senate District 8,” Hukill concluded.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dorothy Hukill to the Florida Senate,” said Senate President-designate Don Gaetz (R-Niceville). “Dorothy was up against the best the Democrat bench has to offer and her decisive victory confirms that ideas matter and that her compelling message and solid record resonated with the voters of her community.”

Considered one of the most hotly contested races in Florida, Hukill handily won the seat by 57 percent to 43 percent, winning by over 23,300 votes across the district.  In Marion County, Senator-elect Hukill’s strong campaign resulted in her winning 60 percent of the votes cast. In Lake County, Senator-elect Hukill performed very well, winning 72 percent of the votes cast. In Volusia County, where she resides, 55 percent of the votes were cast for Senator-elect Hukill.
